Strange Humanoids

"Terminator Salvation"
The T600's head, shoulders, upper arms, lower torso, and legs have been replaced with cgi. For the Marcus endoskeleton, all flesh and metal inside the wounds are cgi. I developed a process in Houdini and Shake to procedurally model the interior flesh frame-by-frame based on the photography, as well as a process to convert 2d tracking data into 3d magnets to stick the cgi to the live actor's movements. I wrote all shaders, executed all look development, and created lighting rigs used by the lighting team for all shots. I lit these shots in Houdini and Prman.

Call of Duty "Ghosts"
A soldier is tortured by extraterrestrials. I procedurally animated the crystals tearing through the skin and the flesh disintegrating, and I also did all lighting and shading in Houdini and Mantra.

Propel "Stress Monster"
This spot won a Clio for Animation. I wrote all shaders and did all lighting in Houdini and Mantra.

Creatures

Sony Playstation "Plants"
This gem never aired, perhaps because it freaked everybody out. I shared texturing, wrote all shaders, and did all lighting in Houdini and Prman.

JuicyFruit "Ant"
I shared shading and did all lighting in Maya and Prman.

Adidas "Slugs"
This spot won a Clio for Visual Effects. The slugs feature ray-marched refracted translucency before it was commonly used. I shared texturing, wrote all the shaders, and did all lighting in Houdini and Prman.

"Sorcerer's Apprentice"
There are 60,000 to 120,000 cgi cockroaches in the transformation shots. I created a process to seamlessly melt thousands of cockroach surfaces into a single human surface using zdepth projections in Houdini and Shake. I wrote all shaders and lit the sequence using Houdini and Prman. I also streamlined the HDR pipeline to generate 835 HDR maps for the entire show.

Whimsical Things

Twix "Factory Tour"
I simulated the flowing caramel, procedurally rigged and animated the clockwork waterwheel, and did all shading and lighting in Houdini and Mantra.

Chick-Fil-A "Cows"
It's a cow in a parachute. I wrote all hair and surface shaders, lit the cow's Shave-and-a-Haircut sourced hair in Maya and Prman, and lit the cow's body and parachute in Houdini and Prman.

Weird Weather

Barclay's Ishares "Clean Slate"
I performed all modeling, animation, texturing, lighting, and shading in Houdini and Prman. Tessendorf's ocean wave functions by Martian Toolz.

UUNet "Tower"
These shots feature ray-marched volumetric clouds in Prman. I also created cgi set extensions and did all modeling, animation, texturing, lighting, and shading.

Cars

Toyota Tundra "Spectacular Reveal"
This spot won two Clio's. All the parts flying through the air, as well as some parts that are accumulating on the chassis, are cgi. I shared some animation, wrote all shaders, and performed all texturing and lighting in Houdini and Prman.

Nissan "Paint Remover"
I designed and created the paint stripping effects in Houdini, shared modeling and animation, wrote all shaders, and performed all texturing and lighting in Houdini and Prman.

Cadillac "Turbulence"
This spot won a Clio for Visual Effects. I designed and created the streaming turbulence effects, shared modeling and animation, wrote all shaders, and performed all texturing and lighting in Houdini and Prman.

HBO "Carnivale"
This won an Emmy for Best Main Title Design. I designed and created the 2d to 3d transition effects, shared some modeling and animation, wrote all shaders, and shared lighting in Houdini and Prman.

Massive Crowds

Carlsberg "Fantastic Game"
The entire stadium crowd is a "Massive" simulation in cgi. I shared in texturing the crowd, wrote all shaders, and performed all lighting in Houdini and Prman.

Nike "Fate"
The entire stadium crowd is a "Massive" simulation in cgi. I shared in texturing the crowd, wrote all shaders, and performed all lighting in Houdini and Prman.

Nike "Leave Nothing"
The only thing real in these shots are the players and the grass immediately beneath their feet. The background grass, stadiums, skies, weather, and crowds are cgi. I set up the photogrammetry texture projections for the stadium architecture, wrote all shaders, and did all lighting in Houdini and Prman.

God creating birds. I performed all modeling, animation, lighting, and shading in Houdini and Prman.
